How to Mentally Prepare for Your Boudoir Session

There’s a lot of focus on what to wear, how to prep your skin, what to bring.
But the part that matters just as much if not more is how you show up mentally.
A boudoir session isn’t just a photoshoot. For a lot of women, it’s new, unfamiliar, and a little outside of their comfort zone.
That’s not a bad thing. But it does mean you should give yourself space to prepare for it.

First Let’s Set the Expectation
It might feel a little awkward at first.
It might not immediately feel “natural. "You might have moments where you’re aware of your body in ways you normally aren’t.
That’s completely normal.
You’re stepping into something new. Most people don’t spend their day being photographed in lingerie, in flattering poses, under intentional lighting.
The shift can feel unfamiliar before it feels empowering.
Give yourself permission to ease into it.
The Shopping Experience: What to Expect
Buying pieces for your session can bring up more emotion than people expect.
You might:
Try something on and immediately focus on what you don’t like
Feel unsure about sizing or fit
Overanalyze your body in the mirror
Here’s what I want you to remember:
You are not shopping to look perfect standing in a dressing room.
You are shopping for how something will look styled, posed, and photographed.
Everything in your session is designed to be flattering:
The posing
The lighting
The angles
Your job is not to critique your body in harsh overhead lighting. Your job is simply to ask: does this fit, and do I feel something in it?
That’s it.
Don’t Overthink Your Outfits
You don’t need ten options. You don’t need to reinvent yourself.
The best outfits are usually the ones that feel:
Natural
Comfortable
Aligned with how you already see yourself
After you book your session you are given a very detailed "Get Ready Guide". If you’re unsure about anything, you can always reach out to me. I’d much rather help you decide ahead of time than have you spiraling over it on your own.
Let Yourself Have This Experience
A lot of women aren’t used to doing things just for themselves.
So when something like this comes up, the instinct is to:
Overthink it
Question it
Downplay it
You don’t have to do that here.
You’re allowed to take up space in this experience. You’re allowed to enjoy it—even if it feels unfamiliar at first.
The Night Before Your Session
How you spend the night before matters more than people realize.
Instead of running around or scrolling your phone until you fall asleep, try to create a little space for yourself.
Simple things:
Take a warm bath or shower
Drink tea (something calming, not overstimulating)
Read a book or do something offline
Give your body a chance to actually relax
The goal isn’t perfection it’s calm.
Take Care of Your Body
Your body will respond to how you treat it leading up to your session.
Focus on:
Hydration (drink more water than you think you need)
Light stretching to release tension
Rest even if sleep isn’t perfect, give yourself time to unwind
You don’t need to change your body. You just want to support it.
Avoid the Rush
One of the biggest stressors before a session is feeling rushed.
The easiest way to avoid that is to prepare ahead of time.
Quick Pre-Session Checklist:
Outfits tried on and set aside
Accessories packed (if you’re bringing any)
Directions or location saved
Timeline for getting ready planned out
Give yourself more time than you think you need.
Walking into your session calm instead of chaotic changes everything.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to show up perfectly confident.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You just need to show up open enough to experience something different.
Everything else we’ll take care of together.
