What to Wear for Your Boudoir Session

Let’s get one thing out of the way: you do not have to fit into a certain mold to have an incredible boudoir session.

You can go all in with the lingerie, heels, stockings, and all the little details—or you can show up in your favorite jeans and a tank top and call it a day.

This client? She went allllll the way in. Fancy lingerie, statement pieces, and Louboutin heels. And honestly? I’m here for it.

But your wardrobe can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be.

My artwork will always have that warm, dark, moody, editorial feeling I’m known for, but what you wear is completely up to you. I want your images to feel like you, not like you’re trying to recreate someone else’s session.

And you can even shoot an entire session with nothing more than a sheet. Seriously. There is something incredibly beautiful about keeping things that simple and letting the woman, the movement, and the light.

It walks you through the questions you probably already have and quite a few you probably haven’t even thought about yet.

We talk about wardrobe, styling, what photographs beautifully, and all of those little details that can make you feel more prepared going into your session. Yes, we even talk about things like which nail polish colors photograph best.

You’ll also have access to my favorite places to shop, along with plenty of inspiration to help you start pulling your looks together.

Start With Inspiration

My Instagram is also a great place to start. It’s essentially a giant, living wardrobe and posing inspiration board featuring real women who have already stepped in front of my camera.

You can see what different pieces look like on different bodies, how simple outfits photograph, how elaborate styling can transform a session, and all the little details that make each woman's experience her own.

You may see a woman completely covered in lace and heels and think, YES.

Or you may see someone in a white tank and jeans and think, Oh. That's much more me.

Both are right.

There is no required boudoir uniform.

Your session can be soft and simple, dramatic and unapologetic, sexy and glamorous, or somewhere completely in between.

The goal isn't to dress like a boudoir model.

The goal is to feel like yourself—just a little more spicy.
